Postdoctoral Opportunities

The Tropini Lab in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is excited to offer a postdoctoral position studying gut microbiota biofilms and their importance in bacterial colonization and host health. This is a Human Frontiers Science Project (HFSP)-funded project that will involve close collaboration with the Fusco lab at Cambridge and Ruiz-Pestana lab at the University of Miami.

While most known gut microbiota members have biofilm genes, we do not know how they are regulated and their importance for bacterial colonization in health and disease. In this project we will investigate the importance of genetic heterogeneity on biofilm resilience to complex fluctuating environments such as the mammalian gut. The project will involve microbiota work in gnotobiotic mouse models and microfluidic systems alongside quantitative analysis.

Candidates must have (or receive by October 2022) a PhD with a microbiology research focus; evidence of published work in the biofilm field is preferred.

Applicants should provide: 1) a cover letter, 2) curriculum vitae that describes previous research experience, and 3) list of references. To apply, please email Dr. Tropini at The deadline for applications is May 6th, 2022, or until the position has been filled.
