Special Interests & Accomplishments in Teaching

My main focus of teaching is with the MICB 202 (Medical Microbiology and Immunology) and MICB 302 (Immunology) courses. For both courses, I have developed extensive learning resources including the course textbook (complete with learning objectives, pre-reading questions, review questions/ answers), student educational resources (problems sets, worksheets, clinical case studies, online quizzes, practice examinations) and instructor education resources (lectures slides, clicker questions, questions for examinations, animation library). Special lectures link current events with the course curriculum (e.g., CRISPR/Cas, mRNA vaccines). I also developed three lessons that introduced students to the functioning of the immune system for the new online course CAPS 210, Human Biology for Arts Students.

I engaged in a pilot project in the department to provide an opportunity for Post-Doctoral Fellows (PDFs) to gain teaching experience as part of their professional development. My primary role in the course was to be the mentor for the (PDFs by providing example lectures as well as advice regarding the appropriate level to teach this course, reviewed their lecture plans with them, attended their lectures, and provided feedback after they had delivered their lectures to the course.
