Career “Ask Me Anything” Café (Dr. François Mayer)

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in collaboration with CBR, invites our members to a professional development series: Career “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) Café! The aim of this series is to provide a casual and intimate networking environment where attendees can learn about diverse science career paths, gain insight about the job market around the world, and directly ask questions to the professionals.

Our next virtual café will take place on Thursday, Feb 25, 2021 from 10-11 am, and our mentor is M&I Alumni Dr. François MayerAssociate Editor at Nature Microbiology, Springer Nature; Berlin, Germany.

Dr. François Mayer studied Microbiology at the TU Braunschweig in Germany. In 2012, he earned his PhD in Microbiology studying the human fungal pathogen Candida albicans in the laboratory of Bernhard Hube at the Hans-Knoell-Institute in Jena, Germany. Following a postdoc position in Jena, he then moved to Vancouver, Canada, in 2014 to perform postdoctoral studies on the human fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans in the laboratory of Dr. Jim Kronstad at the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, UBC. François joined the Nature Microbiology team in September 2019 as an Associate Editor and handles submissions in the areas of microbial eukaryotes, environmental microbiology, and parasites.
