  • August 13, 2015 - Darlene Birkenhead, graduate program coordinator, awarded a 2015 UBC President's Staff Award 
  • July 15, 2015 - Postdoctoral Fellows Stefanie Vogt, Brett Eyford, Lisa Reynolds, and Ashley Hilchie awarded 2015 MSFHR Research Trainee Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards 
  • July 9, 2015 - Dr. Charles Thompson and Dr. Julian Davies awarded a special grant for "Innovative approaches to address antibacterial resistance." 
  • July 8, 2015 - Anastasia Hyrina, PhD student - Jean lab, awarded the 2015 International Society for Antiviral Research (ISAR) - Women in Science (WIS) Career Development Award for her work on dengue virus and hepatitis C virus

  • September 20, 2014 - Dr. Brett Finlay awarded the 2014 Prix Galien Canada award

  • May 5, 2014 - Dr. Julian Davies elected to the National Academy of Sciences (US) 
  • March 11, 2014 - Kate Sedivy-Haley, Phd candidate - Hancock lab, recevived the 2013 Vanier award for her work in developing screening techniques using ES-cell derived macrophages 
  • November 25, 2013 - Dr. Steven Hallam named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
  • November 8, 2013 - Dr. Pauline Johnson honoured by the Minerva Foundation for BC Women at the 8th annual "Women In" luncheon for significantly impacting her community and beyond through leadership, excellence, philanthropy and service. 
  • October 21, 2013 - UBC iGEM advances to the World Championships (Boston, Massachusetts) 
  • July 4, 2013 - Dr. Georgia Perona-Wright awarded prestigious CIHR New Investigator salary award 
  • July 4, 2013 - Dr. Ken Harder and Dr. Brett Finlay receive 5-year CIHR operating grants in latest competition
  • May 14, 2013 - Darlene Birkenhead and Tim Jayme receive 2012-2013 Faculty of Science Achievement Awards
  • April 22, 2013 - Dr. Joanne Fox and Dr. Steven Hallam receive 2012-2013 UBC Killam Teaching Prize 
  • January 10, 2013 - Dr. Julian Davies receives the ABBOTT-ASM Lifetime Achievement Award 
  • January 10, 2013 - Dr. Bob Hancock receives 2012 Prix Galien Canada and the 2012 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal 
  • January 10, 2013 - Dr. Mike Gold receives the 2013 Cinader Award lecturer for outstanding research contributions in the field of B cell biology, and the depth and breadth of his contributions to the community through research, teaching, and service both locally and nationally 
  • January 10, 2013 - Dr. Brett Finlay receives 2012 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal 
  • November 20, 2011 - Dr. Julian Davies awarded honorary doctorate (Doctor of Science, honoris causa) from McGill University as well as the Society for General Microbiology Prize Medal 
  • October 6, 2011 - Emma-Kate Loveday, Phd candidate, won gold in the CSHRF 2011 National Student Research Poster competition at the University of Manitoba for her exciting research on "MicroRNAs-Novel regulators involved in the pathogenesis of influenza A." 
  • October 5, 2011 - Patrick Ho, IT manager in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, awarded a President's Staff Award in the area of "Emerging Leadership" 
  • April 19, 2011 - Two LSI researchers - Prokecy Leader Dr. Lindsay Eltis and Co-Leader Dr. William Mohn lead $7.9 million Genome Canada Applied Research Project Grant 
  • March 17, 2011 - Dr. Lindsay Eltis elected as 2011 Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology 
  • February 14, 2011 - Dr. Bob Hancock winner of the Killam award for Excellence in Mentoring 
  • February 14, 2011 - Dr. Lindsay Eltis winner of a 2010 UBC Killam Research Prize 
  • February 4, 2011 - Nita Shah, graduate student, is the winner of the John Richard Turner Award, an $8,000 award endowed through a bequest by John Richard Turner to support genetic research by graduate students in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology 
  • January 5, 2011 - Graduate students Adam Plumb (Abraham lab), Emma-Kate Loveday (Jean lab), Shannon Russell (Finlay lab), and Jennifer Geddes (Kronstad lab) receive the 2011 Robert Emmanuel and Mary Day Endowment Travel Award
